Explore the Cathedral
After Adoration, explore the Cathedral with a self-paced scavenger hunt with friendly and dedicated guides on hand.
Families are welcome to come and go as needed. All who attend will receive coloring pages and a holy hour guide! The Sheen Museum at the Spalding Pastoral Center will also be open from 9 AM - 4 PM.

The Sheen Family Adoration and Cathedral Exploration is for families. Parents, bring your children and babies and enter into this engaging, reverent event!

No worries! Our holy hour will actually be closer to 30 minutes and will be led by a priest who understands that kids need to wiggle and move but are also capable of great devotion. There will be music, vocal prayer, an opportunity to come close to the Lord.

The event runs from 10am to 12 noon. Family Adoration will begin shortly after 10am and end around 10:45am. The Cathedral will then remain open for families to explore.

The tours are self-guided so each family can move at their own pace. However, scavenger hunts will be provided and Guides will be stationed around the Cathedral to help in discoveries and exploration.

Though not an official part of the event, YES! The Sheen Museum will be open from 9am - 4pm and is just a couple blocks down the street from the Cathedral. The Museum is located in the Spalding Pastoral Center: 419 NE Madison Ave., Peoria, IL 61603.

Downtown Peoria is home to a variety of coffee shops, restaurants, the Peoria RiverFront Market, the Caterpillar Visitor’s Center, and the Peoria RiverFront Museum. The Peoria Zoo and Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum at Glen Oak Park and Wildlife Prairie Park are in the broader Peoria area. And a quick drive across the river will get you to Elevate Trampoline Park, Bass Pro Shops, and lots of family-friendly shopping and dining in East Peoria.

Katie Bogner
Katie Bogner is a teacher at St. Philomena School in Peoria and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Henry. She created the Teaching with Fulton Sheen curriculum, used in the diocese and beyond, and has been teaching about the life of Archbishop Sheen with her students for 15 years. Katie is passionate about equipping parents, catechists, and teachers to share the beauty and truth of Christ and His Church with children. She is the author of the books Through the Year with Jesus and Through the Year with Mary, as well as All about Advent & Christmas, All about Lent & Holy Week, and We Have a Pope. She runs the website, LookToHimAndBeRadiant.com, which offers hundreds of completely free lesson plans, printables, and other resources for teaching the Faith.
Bonnie Engstrom
Bonnie L. Engstrom lives with her eight children and husband in central Illinois. A former contributor to Blessed Is She, Bonnie likes to bake, garden, and volunteer at her parish. Her book, 61 Minutes to a Miracle, tells the story of her son's miracle at birth, which was investigated by the Vatican and confirmed for the beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. Published by OSV, it has been translated into Polish, Italian, and Slovak and a new edition will be released for Sheen's beatification. Her children's book, Fulton Sheen and the Very Bad Week, is the retelling of true stories from Archbishop Sheen's childhood and is beautifully illustrated by artist Mariam Khoury Briggs. It is published by Emmaus Road Publishing.
